Since she was seven years old, senior Destiny Thompson has spent the majority of her time on the basketball court. From playing at home to playing for the Chris Paul Basketball Academy (CP3) and then at RJR, Thompson has worked very hard to achieve her dreams of continuing her basketball career at the collegiate level.
Following her time at RJR, Thompson will play Division II basketball at the University of Mount Olive in Mount Olive, NC.
“My recruiting process was long and a little bit stressful trying to find the best fit,” Thompson said. “I picked Mt. Olive because of the family and competitive atmosphere they have there.”
Although it’s pretty common to see people commit to a school during their junior year, Thompson waited to choose until later in her senior year but still had a strong support system.
“My family, friends, and some of my coaches were my biggest supporters during this process,” Thompson said.
Thompson’s career at RJR has been nothing short of a success as she led the team to incredible wins and represented the Demons well every game. There is no doubt that teachers, students, and coaches will miss her next year, but we all wish her the best as she moves on to the next chapter of her life.
“I will miss my teammates and all of the friends that I have made during my time here,” Thompson said. “I’m looking forward to the new challenge that college will bring.”
