Hoppin’ to Hopkins

If you have ever attended an R.J. Reynolds field hockey game, there is no doubt that your attention was immediately drawn to number 7, Ada Farmer. Her defensive talents are what drove the Demons to such a successful season.

Along with being a star field hockey player, Farmer also plays on the varsity lacrosse team and is part of Girls’ Council, and the academic team. Balancing all of these activities is a struggle, but she does it with ease thanks to the support of her parents.

“My parents have been the best,” Farmer said. “They supported me in going to so many recruiting events, driving to Charlotte for my club team, and always letting me know they would support me in whatever decision I ended up making.”

While Farmer couldn’t have been as successful as she was without her parent’s reassurance at home, her coaches gave her the same amount of support on the field.

“Coaches Ashton, AD, and Steve at Reynolds really helped me build my confidence as a leader on the Reynolds team,” Farmer said.

Her family and coach’s support led her to decide to attend Johns Hopkins University in the fall and join their field hockey team.

“I picked Hopkins because it offered a lot of balance,” Farmer said. “I could have the D3 experience at an incredible school, be involved in plenty of extracurriculars, and still compete at a really high level for field hockey.”

Ada’s presence will be missed next year at RJR, but we all know she is excited to get to know her new team and continue playing the sport she loves.

“I will miss my teammates the most.” Farmer said. “In both field hockey and lacrosse, they were always there when I was having a bad day, and regardless of whether we had practice or a game, I always had something to look forward to after school.”
