For many students at R.J. Reynolds High School, prom is the most important day of the year. This is no different for senior Jahari Miller, who stole the show as the winner of prom king.

“Winning Prom King was a surprise, especially since someone said I won by a landslide,” Miller said. “I’m just really glad I had the opportunity my senior year to run and that I will get to tell my kids in the future that I won Prom King.”

The victory didn’t come without effort, with an intense media campaign and posters being the driving force behind his victory.

“I did do a pretty hefty campaign,” Miller said. “I think being on social media and being funny helped me quite a lot.”

Ending his high school career with a crown, Miller already has his prospects set for college.

“I’m going to college at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte as an Honors Student,” Miller said. “I will be at the Klein College of Science and will be majoring in biology.”

Miller’s major will prepare him for his goal: a future career in the medical field.

“My top goal is to be a doctor, specifically a dermatologist,” Miller said. “If anything else, I would like to be a biology teacher, as I already do biology tutoring on the side.”

With a crown on his head and a notebook in his hands, Miller faces UNC-Charlotte.
