Whether it’s at a pep rally or a football game, cheerleaders like Jalaa Miller are there to bring energy, rhythm, and uplift school spirit. A cheerleader for her entire high school career, Miller has grown to be at the center stage.

“I did two years of JV and two years of Varsity,” Miller said. “I feel like cheer has really been a part of shaping me to the person I am today. It taught me communication skills, leadership skills, and listening to one another in order to get the problem solved”.

The skills of teamwork, management, and connection are now fueling Miller’s next big stage in life: college. As she graduates from high school and cheerleading, Miller plans to find new and engaging ways to express herself.

“I’m going to the University of North Carolina Greensboro,” Miller said. “I plan to major in English for the creative writing aspect. I want to write poetry, short stories, screenplays, just all of the above with a goal of becoming a versatile writer.”

Miller’s artistry and expressiveness doesn’t just stop at writing. Her love for performance will still play a major role in her future plans.

“I also want to minor in dance,” Miller said. “I still want to keep dancing and moving my body. Maybe I’ll become a backup dancer for someone one day, or maybe a choreographer.”

No matter where she goes, Miller will always find a way to shine, whether through words on a page or dancing on a stage.
