From the court to the classroom, Noora Hosseinzadeh has found her place at R.J. Reynolds. Those who know her are lucky enough to discover her triple citizenship or how she helped lead the RJR women’s tennis team to its highest ranking in years.
“I was the captain this year,” said Hosseinzadeh. “We were ranked in our conference the best that we had [been] all four years of my high school experience. We got second this year. We usually tie for third with Reagan, but this year, we were able to beat them. I’m really proud.”
Hosseinzadeh’s passion reaches beyond the tennis courts and into classrooms as well. During her time at RJR, Hosseinzadeh discovered the organization Doctors Without Borders, inspiring her to pursue a pre-medical track at her next stop, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
“I’m very inspired by organizations like Doctors Without Borders,” Hosseinzadeh said. “Doctors go to countries where there isn’t a lot of adequate healthcare. They help people who really need healthcare. That’s something I’ve always been very inspired by. I might even start a chapter once I’m in college.”
The workings of Doctors Without Borders have helped change her view of the world and helped her find her interest in different humanities classes. Some of those classes were AP Government and Politics and AP U.S. History.
“I enjoyed having [John] Clevenger as my United States history teacher,” Hosseinzadeh said. “I think that with it being an election year, we are consistently learning about how relevant U.S history is to today. It’s just really interesting to see how things from the 1800s still affect how we live our lives on a daily basis. I think classes like [AP Government and Politics and AP U.S. History] helped me understand how the world works and helped me form my own opinions.”
While Hosseinzadeh’s time at RJR may be finished, she looks forward to the next steps of her life. Whether that means starting a Doctors Without Borders chapter or pursuing a passion like tennis, Noora Hosseinzadeh will surely embrace every moment she has through UNC and beyond.
