Graphic of Valentine’s Day movies provided by Keegan Brown.

As Valentine’s Day rolls around, people have mixed feelings about the holiday. Whether you are a Valentine’s Day fan or a hater, February 14th has some great movies to go along with the special day.

I have watched many romantic movies over the years, but I can say with certainty five specific ones stick out to me that I recommend watching.

  1. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days– Starting strong, this is my all-time favorite romantic comedy. It has everything you could want. From the ironic way the two characters, Andie Anderson and Benjamin Barry, begin to fall in love with each other to scenic filming along New York City to a sweet ending, I couldn’t recommend this movie more.
  1. The Notebook– This two-hour and one-minute movie just isn’t long enough. Teenagers Noah Calhoun and Allie fall for each other, but her parents disapprove of Noah. Noah leaves to serve in World War II, and just when you think their story may end, Noah comes back and shows he is willing to do anything for Allie. This movie makes you cheer for their relationship to work so much to the point I cried.
  1. 10 Things I Hate About You– This one makes me smile. Bianca Stratford, Kat Stratford’s younger sister, is told that she can’t date until Kat does. Her dad says this won’t happen for a very long time as Kat doesn’t show an appeal for anyone. But, as Patrick Verona is set up with Kat, we get to see their surprising love story unfold.
  1. 27 Dresses– From the start, you are intrigued with Jane as she is very unique, having been a bridesmaid twenty-seven times. As she has seen so many of her friends find their true love, it’s very satisfying to watch her find hers during this movie. It’s funny, captivating, enjoyable, and it has it all.
  1. Anyone But You– At a destination wedding, two ex-lovebirds, Beatrice and Ben, run back into each other after having a bad first date. Despite getting off to an awkward start, you get to watch these two get swept off their feet by one another when they least expect it. It is such a fun, fast-moving movie that got me rooting for their relationship from the beginning.

Now these are only five of my favorites, but I hope you can see there are great movies to watch no matter how you feel about Valentine’s Day.
